The interior also has received significant changes including a straighter dashboard which harks back to the shape of the dash board used on the classic 911. All models also feature a full-length rear light bar. 992 models have electrical pop-out door handles, a retractable rear spoiler (for specific models only) and LED headlights. The front of the car is designed to mimic the appearance of an early 911 in a modern fashion. The 992 also has a new rear bumper with larger exhaust tips than its predecessor. ![]() You may or may not like it, but one thing is sure, the car looks radical.Styled '11' as third brakelight in the middle of the rear duct is preceded by 9 vertical slats subtly indicating "911" as the model.Ĭompared to its predecessor, the 992 is 45 mm (1.8 in) wider and now uses aluminium body panels. Porsche combined the three radiators into a single heat exchanger to improve space for the front end’s active aero features. It has a wider front track that maximizes weight distribution, a lower control-arm ball that reduces dive under braking, and other drivetrain aerodynamics optimization. It’s active, and since downforce equals drag, Porsche responded by taking a page from the Formula 1 playbook – a driver-activated DRS (drag-reduction system).īeneath the car, the suspension system is aero-optimized, such as the teardrop-shaped control arms on the front axle that improve wheel-well airflow. You might have comic opinions of the towering rear wing, but the smirk vanishes from your face when you learn the car contributes a brilliant 902 lbs of downforce at 124 mph and 1,896 lbs at 177 mph. If you don't like it, the Touring model should make you happy. Just about every segment of the body plays an aerodynamic role via splits, spoilers, scoops, and shunts. All the body panels – even the door skins, are carbon fiber. We meant every word when we said the wizards of Weissach turned to aerodynamics to push the GT3 RS further ahead. When we called the new GT3 RS “a configurable track-oriented supercar,” we meant the Porsche Configurator that puts all the options in your hands, so you can build and personalize your unique 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Magnesium wheels are available with the Weissach package that cost an extra – wait for it – $33,250. The power meets the ground via 275/35-20 rubber on the fronts and steamroller 335/30-21s on the rear tires, and gets halted via optional carbon-ceramics brakes or standard 16.1-by-1.4-inch GT3 brakes. This may well lead to a 0-to-60 mph acceleration of under 3 seconds, and we can’t wait to see this car hit the track and generate some awesome numbers. Just to be clear, the belly contains Porsche’s gas-guzzling 4.0-liter flat-six with a new GT3 RS bespoke camshaft to milk those 15 extra horses. Since an engine can only move so much air, the Weissach wizards turned their attention to the airflow outside, at the end of which the new GT3 RS speaks power through the body’s aerodynamics. The power plant needed more than a copious amount of air to vroom past the standard GT3 and emerge as the most powerful naturally aspirated Porsche 911, as well as shame its turbocharged peers while at it. With 518 freely generated horsepower, it sounds like not much of a leap over the standard 502-hp GT3 until you throw in the RS's insanely aggressive and superior aerodynamics. Back to power and performance on the new GT3 RS. ![]()
