All Deserts Have Cacti: The original Half-Life has a few saguaro cacti in the outdoor areas.Alien Landmass: Xen, the final level of the game, is a surreal alien landscape with floating, oddly-shaped landmasses and wonky physics that make it difficult to navigate.This is especially so in the remake, Black Mesa, where it's depicted as blue-purple void of stars in the outer regions, and changes to a more red-orange hue on the central island, complete with a swirling vortex of energy for a sun Alien Sky: Xen has one, it looks like a vast greenish nebula which enshrouds the entire realm.Alien Blood: Just about every lifeform originating from Xen has yellow blood. ![]() Air-Vent Passageway: This series is famous for its heavy use of this, as you'll find yourself crawling in a vent at least several times per game.Action Girl: Gina, Colette, Alyx and the female rebels, who fight just as well and hard as the men.Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: The G-Man speaks with this.Aborted Arc: Shephard and his purpose to the G-Man have not been mentioned outside of Opposing Force.The first game has two weapons that use depleted uranium for ammunition.In addition to this, the Pulse Rifle weapon's alt-fire shoots an energy ball projectile that ricochets off solid surfaces and disintegrates targets on contact.The automated reloading mechanism and the 30-round "magazines" look more like shell-loading, cylindrical cartridges no bigger than a roll of quarters. Also featured in Half-Life 2 is the "Pulse Rifle," a terrifying automatic weapon that fires dark-energy projectiles that are functionally identical to conventional bullets.Half-Life 2's Crossbow fires lengths of glowing hot rebar.The Hive Hand, which generates and shoots alien bees.When supercharged by dark energy, it can even pick up people, which kills them instantly. The Gravity Gun easily invokes this trope, given that you can pick up and launch almost anything with it.Abandoned Mine: Towards the end of Ravenholm and much of the early setting in Episode Two.The impending city-sized explosion left it in the process of being abandoned again Abandoned Hospital: One of the settings in Episode One, which appears to have been taken over by the Combine.The Long Jump module in the first game, which you receive before entering Xen.It has enormous range, can grab people and Dark Energy balls as well as inanimate objects, and will always deliver a One-Hit Kill. 11th-Hour Superpower: The Super Gravity Gun, which appears in the final chapters of the second game and the first chapters of Episode One, both times within the Citadel.Later iterations of the series (starting with Condition Zero, and continued with the standalone release of Counter-Strike: Source a year after it was released bundled with Half-Life 2) were sold standalone and the series as a whole went a separate way from Half-Life, with the first game remaining the only solid connection (it and its remake are still sold as part of Half-Life bundles on Steam, unlike the later Counter-Strike games). It was originally billed as part of the Half-Life series (and implicitly in the same universe due to shared assets like Black Mesa scientists and containers), with the 1.6 version of the mod being officially named Half-Life: Counter-Strike when sold at retail, and its remake, Counter-Strike: Source being bundled with every retail copy of Half-Life 2, as well as, initially, every digital copy. In addition, there's Counter-Strike, which started out as a mod of the first Half-Life. Half-Life: Alyx * VR prequel to Half-Life 2 (2020).The games composing the series are the following: "The Combine" are everywhere to be found, "The Citadel" looms in the distance, and Freeman is The Only One who can stop them. This takes place in what resembles an Eastern European setting where the interdimensional powers-that-be have already invaded and rule the entire planet. In the sequel, Half-Life 2, Freeman is dropped into reality around 20 years after the events of Half-Life. ![]()
